Trauma Counselling (Level II) – Advanced Training Programme for Healing Trauma

Fountain – Capuchin Institute of Counselling, Psychotherapy and Research is organizing the Trauma Counselling (Level II) training programme from August 17 to 20, 2026, at Fountain, Sundampatti, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. This residential workshop is designed for professionals seeking advanced knowledge and practical skills in trauma counselling and psychological healing.

The programme introduces Trauma Counselling through Self Psychology, a unique scientific model for trauma healing developed by Fr. G. Tamil Selvam, OFM Cap. The approach is based on his two years of professional training at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, Canada (2012–2014).

Course Content

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge and practical experience in the following areas:

• Review of the Level I Trauma Counselling course
• Demonstration of the Trauma Counselling Model with individual practical sessions
• Understanding different types of trauma, including:
  • Acute Trauma
  • Chronic Trauma
  • Complex Trauma
  • Developmental Trauma
  • Vicarious Trauma
• Therapeutic interventions for grief and loss, neglect, anger, shame, guilt, and abuse
• De-sensitization and grounding techniques for trauma recovery

Learning Experience

The programme combines theory with hands-on practice, enabling participants to understand trauma dynamics and apply effective therapeutic interventions. Through practical sessions, participants will develop the skills needed to support trauma survivors and facilitate meaningful healing, often within a short period of focused intervention.

Resource Person

The workshop will be led by Fr. G. Tamil Selvam, OFM Cap., a Psychotherapist and Trauma Counsellor who received advanced professional training in trauma counselling in Canada (2010–2014) and has extensive experience in the field.
